Sand,



only a single word but behind it is a world of miracles and legends. TMS coated sand becomes hydrophobic sand that rejects water and is impermeable to water. It is a fact which is of high value in arid and semi-arid world regions. A layer of hydrophobic sand in the soil reduces the general need for watering of the soil by 80 %. That means instead of 20 litres water/day only 4 litres of water are needed. All together it saves per m² a year a volume of about 6 m³ of sweet water, often produced out of seawater at high cost. So a layer of HS per m² with a total cost of $100 per implementation can save 6 m³ sweetwater a year that costs often as much or even more. That means that within one year costs are saved and in the upcoming years the budgets can be smaller and water production costs go down. With that recognition the developers in landscape and agricultural development in rural environments will be keen on hydrophobic sand as solution for a better world.

Hydrophobic

sand also has applications in regions where possibly too much water is in the soil: Central Europe, the tropic zones or North America, Asia, Japan and Australia. Hydrophobic sand under a building construction or under a street construction will reject groundwater or influencing waters so that the construction can be kept dry and will be long living for the owner. HS, hydrophobic Sand protects the environment as the wax coating is not injuring the environment. So what do we have? The key for a new understanding is in using and treating water and eliminating damages and costs by high ground water. Hydrophobic Sand means: let there be water where it belongs to and hold water back, where it is not desired. (Flood control and dike protection(with waterproof sandbags) in coastal areas as per projections for global seawater level rises.)

How is hydrophobic sand produced?



Dry sand is put into a process plant where it is heated up to 70° C. This hot sand is brought together with the primer TMS, which coats each grain with a very thin layer of wax. That changes sand into hydrophobic sand. Hydrophobic Sand is filled into bags, each one about 2 tons, and transported to the place of use. HS is neutral to the environment and grants its water rejection adjective for more than 30 years. So mankind can change life values by HS. Create green lawns, a zone of bushes and trees, order your gardens and fields, or create artificial lakes that don’t loose the water into the soil.
